Twists & Turns of Life

Tuesday, September 10: Describe a distinct moment when your life took a turn.

I think the most distinctive life changing turn (although there have really been MANY) would be when my parents divorced. I haven't really discussed it much on this little piece of the world wide web, but it changed many facets of my life.

I was 16 when my dad dropped the bomb on my mom that he wanted a divorce. I was a mix of emotions considering I was a daddy's girl...I have long since learned that the blame lay with both of them, but sadly, I no longer speak to my dad.

My dad remarried. The step-witch is a Martha Stewart wanna be with hate issues. My mom is still single. My sister and I have neither one talked to my dad in about 7 years. Maybe longer, not really sure. It's not really a date you write in your planner to remember, ya know? My dad chose not to come to my wedding a few months ago. My mom has been there for me no matter what.

Due to the divorce, I changed high schools and therefore changed the trajectory of my life. Still kept some of the goals I had, but if I hadn't changed schools...I know I wouldn't have accomplished those goals.

As I have said to a few close friends - parents divorcing definitely is traumatic, but much good came from it in my life as well. All in all, I believe that things happened for a reason. I may never know what those reasons are, but life is good now and I made it through the hard times. :)
