Day 242

Monday marked our last full day in San Antonio and we enjoyed the beautiful, sunny day with a walk just a few blocks from our hotel to The Alamo, the final Mission that remained on our "tourist" list. It is definitely the least exciting of all the missions, at least in size, but the history is of course just as rich. We were lucky to be able to hear the conservationist working on the walls that day and she stopped her work to give an explanation of what she does. Simply amazing!

We walked back to the Riverwalk for lunch at Landry's. Yum! Zach was a fan of Landry's from previous work trips to El Paso and we quickly learned why. It was a very good meal and we enjoyed a wonderful view along the river.

Monday night we stayed in our hotel room, mainly so Jen and I could watch the season finale of The Sing-off (don't judge us!). We ordered in from Jimmy's Pizza and had a relaxing final evening on our trip.

Day 241

Sunday we were feeling a bit lazy...so after a looooooooong, lazy morning laying in the beds or on the couch...we finally got motivated and went out for a bit. Z went for a walk to the Rivercenter Mall while mom, Jen and I decided to have lunch on the Riverwalk before coming back to the hotel for some pool time. :) The pool and jacuzzi were on the roof deck (it would be equivalent to the 11th floor of the hotel). It was a nice sunny day and we were happy to lay there soaking up the sun! We also took a few pictures from the roof overlooking our little slice of paradise. That night we got dressed up and had dinner at Saltgrass Steakhouse on the Riverwalk. It was VERY good. I am ready to go back just for a meal there! ;) After we stuffed ourselves, we walked waddled to the cruise station and took a night cruise on the river to see it all lit up! The Riverwalk is gorgeous no matter what time of the day it is, but it is kinda magical with nearly 2 million LED Christmas lights.

Day 240

Saturday was a rainy day...but thankfully not a cold one! We decided to rent a car and go visit all the Missions, plus make a stop to eat at a place that was featured on the Triple D! :) You know how we all love our food! ha So we were off and running by 8:30am to have the famed 3 pound cinnamon roll at Lulu's and then saw 4 of the 5 Missions. By afternoon it was not raining, so we made our way over to the Tower of Americas to see a panoramic view of beautiful SA! It was shockingly windy...I mean, really really windy...to the point that the wind sucked Z's sunglasses off his face and you had to walk into the wind like you were a hunchback. haha We finished up with dinner on the Riverwalk at County Line BBQ. It was a cool evening, but a fun one spent sitting along the banks - people watching!

Day 239

Friday was a day of discovery around downtown San Antonio. We took a little walking tour to see the Market Square (aka El Mercado). We stopped for some lunch, then went on a Riverwalk cruise. After grabbing a bite to eat for dinner, we made our way to our seats for the annual Riverwalk Holiday Parade. If you ever get a chance to go, it's a must!! It's a fun twist on "regular" parades that we know so well.

Day 238

Happy Thanksgiving!! We started our day bright and early for a 6:05am flight! How's that for celebrating turkey day? haha We flew from Lexington to Atlanta and Atlanta to San Antonio. There was an one hour time change once we reached SA, making it in at about 1pm SA time.

It was awesome arriving to 67 degree weather and SUNSHINE! I know 67 doesn't sound that fantastic, but compared to 30's and 40's of late in Indiana - it was pretty stinkin' wonderful! ha The sun was super warm and intense...so it always felt much warmer (felt like upper 70's). We were definitely enjoying no jackets or long sleeves!

Our Thanksgiving dinner was at Dick's Last Resort. Mom and I have eaten at the one in Chicago, but Jen and Zach had never been...so that was quite fun taking them for the first time. If you've never been to or heard of Dick's - it's pretty much a restaurant where the waiters harass and humiliate you. So be prepared for lots of laughter and snarky comments. Dick's is famous for the hats the waiters make for the patrons (see the pics below). LMAO We were sitting at a table right on the Riverwalk and people were inches away from our table as they made their walk around the Riverwalk...if they had been driving cars, there would have been many head-on collisions! We were laughing so hard watching people's reactions that we had tears streaming down our faces. Too much fun. :)

Day 237

Wednesday was my final day of work until after our Thanksgiving trip! I was very anxious to get through the hectic day and make our way to Georgetown. I had a checked bag so everyone could throw their non-TSA size toiletries in it (why is that since I have only TSA sized stuff for my carry-on? ha) and then we packed an overnight bag because I hate digging through a packed bag the morning of a trip! We had a fun evening just hanging out at Zach's house and making plans for things we all wanted to see/do during our time in San Antonio.

Day 236

Um, how the heck have I gone nearly 2 weeks without blogging?!? Yowzers! Sorry friends. :( Time to play catch up! Hopefully someone will end up all the way down at this post...ha...

Tuesday we had our Thanksgiving meal at work. I'm always in charge of the preparations. No fancy decorations. Just lots of table space! ha We enjoyed a catered meal from a local restaurant, Lil Charlie's. They have become our go-to place since they allow us to pick 3 different meals and then our employees can pick the meal they want. It makes for happier employees! ha
