Halloween Display: A Family Outing

There is a local family that does an annual pumpkin display. The display has around 200+ carved pumpkins each year. Tonight was their opening night for this year, so mom, Eric, Emma and I headed out to see it! It was cool to see all the pumpkins and get some ideas for our own Halloween decorating next year! :)

You park on the side of the road, walk up to the house, and wander around the yard with the masses. Seriously, there are people everywhere! They set it up in a great format though. There were 4 hay wagons out in the yard with roped off area and you just circled around those. Then there was the front porch of the house down out along the side of the yard which led to the last wagon. There was also a graveyard with headstones. ;)

Pinterest: Christmas Decor

I pinned this project LAST year and even had the bottles (Starbucks bottles) to do it, but as always, never got around to it! We had white spray paint left over from painting pumpkins and had bought some red paint that we never used, so I found a use for both. Yay for finished projects!

Now I can't wait until after Thanksgiving to put these out! All I need to finish it is some glittery branches to put in the bottles for display.

Sadie is growing!

I can't believe that our sweet baby, Sadie, has only been in our lives for 3.5 weeks! CRAZY! It seems like we've had her forever...and ever. She is growing by leaps and bounds. And her mischievous ways are growing as well. haha She wants to do everything Lucky does, or that we do. She loves to go out to the barn or back to the woods. She so badly wants to play with Toby, but he is scared to death of her (especially now that she is bigger than he is).

I had Eric try to hold her the way he did the first day we brought her home (Sept. 26th) to show everyone how big she has gotten. Holy smokes! I can't stop looking at the picture. Our baby is growing...and FAST! She stands about half as tall as Lucky. And our fear is that she is going to be bigger than Lucky, we just hope not as big as the Great Pyrenees, Kya! ;)

Our Sadie Sue loves (I mean LOVES) to eat! She is doing better with dry food now that her teeth are coming in. I think we can finally start to wean her off the pouched soft food and get her to eat more of the dry food. She is starting to listen to commands like sit and stay. We're working on the "stop chewing/biting" command, but let's face it...she's a puppy and will be for quite some time. Luckily, she loves gnawing on her rag bone and a tennis ball!

She is going to be a great guardian of our home. She is extremely watchful. Our first true annoyance with her was in the early hours of this morning. At 5am, I heard her scratching at the door and whining. I looked out 2 different times and her sleeping buddy Lucky was nowhere to be seen, so I think she was just lonely. It took Eric getting up an hour and a half later to quiet her...and still no Lucky. Our next step is to work on getting them to sleep in the dog house now. We've been letting them sleep on an old futon mattress by the door so we could keep an eye on them. Now that Sadie is getting bigger, I think she'll handle the dog house just fine. I mean, nothing like getting a dog at 4 weeks old because the people failed to tell us until we'd had her for a few days! UGH.

Pinterest: Halloween Decor

Most of us love to "pin" all these things we'd enjoy having in our home for holiday decorations, etc. I want to do them ALL, but without a job and full-time income, my resources are pretty severely limited right now. I have been using some of my boring days at home to contemplate how I can create these pretty things without too much money involved! ha

The girls love to be crafty, so I thought this year we would do a few new things for Halloween. Last year, we did the pumpkin milk jugs for the front porch. Not thinking clearly, we threw them away at the end of the season (because we have NO place for storage for "extra" things).

The first thing we did was paint our pumpkins. Eric decided he liked his pumpkin better as it was (I just don't think he felt like painting...ha), but the girls and I got into the festive Halloween mood!

Jordan was kinda disappointed about not carving her pumpkin, so as a trade off for painting, we let her carve a watermelon. I know, I know. Bizarre! However, we have a huge pile of watermelons sitting back by the garden and we're all kinda burnt out on watermelons. :p With the upcoming frosty days, I doubt her watermelon jack o' lantern will last long, but at least she had fun doing it!

And to finish it off, we used black contractor trash bags to create spider webs for the doors. The girls loved it, but didn't really have a good concept of how to cut the bags properly despite lots of coaching from me (can you believe they've never made snowflakes from paper?!? I thought all elementary schools did that!). We put them up regardless of their success and the girls liked how they turned out. I did one to show them and hung it on the mirror.

Here are my pins that we got the inspiration/directions from if you choose to do it in your home! You can follow me at emenchho1.

30 Miles in 30 Days: Oct Week 2

Adventures of Manda and Mr Howie

It's been a busy month so far, but I've been managing to get my miles in...especially since Hubs has started walking as well. Unfortunately for him, the large pumpkin pie blizzards he has been consuming after the walks don't really help him lose weight. haha ;)

Week 1 Total = 4 miles

I really struggle with food choices when the girls are at our house. I hate making 2 meals for one dinner, but they are too darn picky for their own good. Hopefully I can make some good choices this next week or so and slim down a few more pounds. Last week I lost 3.4 pounds, so that's a start!

Another DIY Project & A Birthday

Remember awhile back (when I did the ribbon wrapped wreath) I mentioned how I had all these Pinterest projects I wanted to complete...and hadn't accomplished any of them?

Well, here is the second DIY project I tackled. Eric's oldest daughter, Emma, turned 14 today! Happy Birthday Emma! I had pinned several glitter/mod podge projects and after seeing Manda take on one of those, I just couldn't resist doing one of my own! ;)

We had Emma's birthday party on Sunday afternoon (scroll down for pics) and one of her gifts from us was a makeup brush set (glittered) with a jar especially for her to store them in on her dresser! I think it turned out really cute and she loves them! The jar and brushes are already on her dresser laid out with the new makeup she got from her grandparents. Every teenage girl's dream. Right? :p

To make the brushes, we purchased a nicer set of brushes. I used the Hard Coat ModPodge and Orange Fine Glitter to do the handles. It took 2 coats of glitter and a third coat of the modpodge to seal it all. The glitter doesn't get all over your hands! Yay!

getting ready to start!

And now for a few party pics!

30 Miles in 30 Days: Sept Final & Week 1

Adventures of Manda and Mr Howie

I can't believe it is October!! I am still missing fall weather...as it's been so dreary these past few days with rain. Ugh!

Sadly, I didn't get my 30 miles in for September. I ended the month with 27 miles and for my first time doing the challenge since April, I felt good about it, especially since my leg/ankle is still healing. I came down with the same thing Eric and Emma had the other week...sore throat, earache, and stuffiness. I can't really take anything because of the blood thinners, but I was able to take a decongestant (which I'm not sure helped), but I'm feeling much better now!

Oct 1 - none
Oct 2 - walked 2 miles with Leslie Sansone dvd
Oct 3 - walked 2 miles with Leslie Sanson dvd
Week 1 Total = 4 miles

Total so far - 4 miles

And now...outside I go to check on our lil girl, Sadie. This morning we discovered that she has roundworm. Gave her a medication for it and she seems to be doing better, no more signs of worms, so we'll have to wait and see. So far they have found homes for 3 of the puppies!
